The Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern Ireland is sorry to report that this January, we lost both our present Patron and for many years our Treasurer, Mrs Iso Aiken (obituary), and a past Patron, Mr Anthony Killykeen-Doyle (obituary).

The Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern Ireland was founded in 1971, by several breeders to promote the exhibition, breeding and the general welfare of the breed in Northern Ireland.

The Club is affiliated to the Kennel Club (London), and runs a Championship Show every September, as well as other get-togethers throughout the year. The Club is also a member of the Irish Wolfhound Health Group, a joint operation by the three UK Irish Wolfhound Clubs to help deal with breed specific health issues, liaising with the Kennel Club (London).

2010's Championship Show at Hillsborough Fort was a very enjoyable day, the results and photos of class winners can be viewed via the Club Show page. It was judged by Mr James G Reynolds, argueably Canada's top All-Rounder, but Wolfhounds were his original and still his favourite breed. This was his first Irish Wolfhound appointment in the UK or Ireland. Best in Show was Ch Caredig Galileo, owned by Mrs D Tebbutt from Wales. The critique of the show can be seen here. Youtube footage of the finals can be viewed here

We also hold regular 'get-togethers' throughout the year. A Fun Day is occasionally held at Gulliagh House, Co. Dublin. There are various events held throughout the day, as well as good food and drink. The highlight of the day was the lure coursing. Mr Liam Dean was good enough to film the coursing from a previous year, some of the races can be downloaded from here.

Our Annual General Meeting, was held at Mrs Shirley Scott's house in Co. Fermanagh. After the club meeting, we all went for a walk in her immaculate gardens, photos can be seen here.

The Ballymoney & District Dog Fanciers' Association All-Breed Open Show was held on the 13th of July, and it had a supported entry by the IWCNI, as the judge was our own committee member, Mr Michael Donnelly. A full report can be seen here.

The IWCNI Championship will be held again in Hillsborough Fort, Hillsborough, Co. Down, on Friday, 25th September 2011. The judge will be Jarmo Vuorinen from Finland. Schedule and entry form can be downloaded here.
